I’m so glad that we decided to spend a few extra days in Puerto Rico before our cruise. We were so happy that our friends, Rachel and Luke, were up for extending our vacation because Puerto Rico had so much to offer!
On our first day, we explored Luquillo Beach and did a Bioluminescent Bay kayaking trip! It was the perfect way to start our trip! I had heard a lot of awesome things about the bioluminescence in Puerto Rico so I was really excited to check it out. I’ll admit, I kind of expected the water to glow underneath me like it does in some pictures, but in reality we only saw a little glow when you waved your hand or paddle in the water. I absolutely loved kayaking while it was pitch-black outside, though.
We paddled along a river that was lined with Mangrove trees and so there wasn’t even moonlight to guide us. A couple times we ran into the roots of the trees because we couldn’t see that the river had curved ahead. Then the river then opened up into the gorgeous Bio Bay and Matt and I just loved sitting in the kayak under the stars and moon. It was very romantic 🙂 The next day we did an adventure trip in the Toro Negro Rainforest with Acampa Tours and it was AMAZING! I feel like I have done a lot of tours recently and this one was definitely the best. The guides felt like your best friends by the end of the day and our group was really friendly and outgoing. The tour included hiking in the most gorgeous part of the rainforest, climbing up a waterfall, zip lining, and repelling! It was the ultimate adventure. If you ever go to Puerto Rico, I highly suggest Acampa and their Full Day Rainforest Adventure! We spent our third day in Puerto Rico exploring the El Yunque Rainforest and the Seven Seas Beach. We found some really fun trails and waterfalls which we were happy about because we arrived knowing very little about what the national park had to offer! We stopped at the visitor center to get a map and away we went! The park was really easy to navigate and there was plenty to do. We hope to go back to Puerto Rico soon and when we do, El Yunque will be one of our first stops!
