I am fascinated by the beauty and history European cities have to offer.
From London to Istanbul, Berlin to Rome, the European continent spans a vast multitude of cultures, languages, and styles. What these 10 stunning cities share, however, is a distinctive look and appeal that have kept people fascinated, and flocking, for centuries!!
What to see: I might have subconsciously put London first on this list because it is one of my all-time favorite travel destinations! Spend a few days in this amazing city visiting the House of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, British Museum, The National Gallery, and so much more!
What to see: There is a lot more to Paris than the eiffel tower and amazing crepes (although I would be perfectly happy with just those two things.) There is SO much to see and do here! Popular destinations include the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, Luxembourg Gardens, Notre Dame Cathedral, Arc de Triomphe, Palace of Versailles, and Sacred Heart Basilica of Montmartre.
What to see: I’m afraid Bern is a sometimes overlooked city. It is the capital of Switzerland and home to some amazing museums and medieval architecture dating back to the 12th and 13th centuries. The Federal Palace of Switzerland, Bern Cathedral, Einstein Museum and Historical Museum of Bern, Clock Tower, Old Town, and Rosengarten are some places you must see.
What to see: I think the picture above looks like it fits in the board game Candy Land! Barcelona will have you ooing and awwing over its vast variety in architecture. La Sagrada Familia church, Magic Fountain of Montjuic, Picasso Museum, Gothic Quarter, Barcelona Cathedral, Park Guell, Montjuic Castle, and the Sagrat Cor church on Tibadabo Hill are some of the most popular destinations in Barcelona.
Prague, Czech Republic
What to see: Some famous sights of Prague are Charles Bridge, Old Town Square, Prague Castle, St. Vitus Cathedral, Church of Our Lady before Tyn, and Powder Gate. You can spend an entire day or two, however, just wandering through Old Town and letting yourself enjoy what may feel like time travel.
What to see: If I had a post about the most beautiful cities to visit in the winter, Berlin would be top of that list! So if you are lucky enough to visit around Christmas time (or any time really ) go see the Reichstag, Brandenburg Gate, Berlin Television Tower, Berlin Cathedral, DZ Bank, Holocaust Museum and Memorial,Pergamon Museum, Berlin Wall, and Charlottenburg Palace.
What to see: This city of islands will leave you breathless. Make sure you see the St Mark’s Basilica, Piazza San Marco, Grand Canal, Doge’s Palace, Rialto Bridge, San Rocco, La Fenice Opera House, I Frari, Arsenale, AND you have to take a gondola through Murano.
What to see: Umm… what isn’t there to see? Highlights are definitely the Belem Tower, Jeronimos Monastery, Sao Jorge Castle, Lisbon Oceanarium, Santa Justa Elevator, Lisbon Cathedral, Vasco de Gama Tower, Rua Garrett, and Pedros IV Square.
What to see: There is so much to do in Budapest that you need to schedule a fair amount of time here. I would suggest seeing the Hungarian Parliament Building, Chain Bridge, St. Stephen’s Basilica, Buda Castle, Matthias Church, Vajdahunyad Castle, Museum of Fine Arts, City Park, and the Széchenyi thermal bath.
What to see and do: Santorini isn’t just a place to go and sight see, even though everything you see will be breathtaking. Here is the perfect Santorini Bucket List: Stay in an Aqua Vista Hotel, Hike the Fira Trail in Oia, Watch the Sunset in Oia, visit Amoudi Bay, explore Ancient Akrotiri and Thera, go see the black sand on Kamari Beach, and enjoy and afternoon sailing!
Thank you so much for viewing this post. I hope after reading about these beautiful cities in Europe you want to pack your bags and hop on the next flight- because that is definitely what I want to do. If you have any other cities that you would like to see on this list or read a blog post about, please tell me in the comment section below.
