It was so fun to be a part of Christi’s engagement. I really loved being involved and I just couldn’t be happier for Christi and Bryton!
If you don’t know, that fact that her fiance’s name is Bryton is kind of a big deal. Christi has spent multiple summers working at the Brighton LDS girls camp in Utah and it is a large part of who she is.
She actually met Bryton while living in the Brighton Apartments in Rexburg, after spending her summer working at Brighton LDS Girls Camp. I have no doubt in my mind that it was all divine intervention!
The second she told me that she was dating a guy named Bryton, it was game over. I just knew it was meant to be. I think everyone in the family actually knew it. It’s funny how something could feel so right and just make sense. Meeting him just confirmed everything that we had already felt because he fit into our family seamlessly.
Now on to the Engagement Story
Now that you know the background story, you understand why it was so important for Bryton to propose at Brighton. (Thank goodness they are spelt differently or this would all get very confusing haha) He just knew it was the perfect place and wasn’t willing to settle for anything but perfect.
Bryton and I spent that entire week texting and calling behind Christi’s back and we made up A LOT of different stories and excuses to throw her off. Bryton told me exactly what he had envisioned but because he and Christi would be driving form Idaho to Utah together, all the handiwork was left up to me.
Friday afternoon Matt, Kinsey, and I went to Brighton early to set everything up. Christi thought they were meeting us up the canyon to do a fun ski lift ride and bonfire. When I casually texted Christi to see where they were, she said:
“Just getting to Ogden. No traffic yet but I didn’t expect to have any before now. Ill let you know if it gets worse”
(Naturally I’m thinking, of course they will hit traffic right around Salt Lake. We have a good 45 minutes before they get here.)
So I text her back and told her we had just left and that we were just a few minutes ahead of them.
And then I get this…”Man, I was wrong. I had just woken up from a nap so I didn’t really know where we were. We actually just passed Downtown Salt Lake. Be there in 15 min.”
Not only are we NOT ready, but our original plan was to “get there before her” and say the line was so long and it was too cold so we were just going to skip the ski ride and just do the bonfire.
I felt too much anxiety about it all so I made Kinsey call her and tell her that we had gotten our dates wrong and that the ski lift wasn’t actually happening that weekend. I think that should have given it away and she should have gotten suspicious at that point but she didn’t. Hallelujah!
We ended up having the bonfire going and everything set up just in time for when they arrived.
Christi’s reaction was so perfect when she finally caught on to what he was happening and we all loved being a part of the special event!
Glad you said YES Christi 🙂
